Ullevalseter had a fantastic day today winning the stage. His first ever stage win in a Dakar rally puts him in second place overall with a four minute and 22 second lead over Contardo. Rumors from the bivouac yesterday evening held that Despres was going to lend Pal Anders the "magic" Michelin mousse for today's stage and lead him into victory. Truth or fiction, congratulations to Pal Anders Ullevalseter for his victory,and probable second overall Dakar finish.

There was so much confusion with Stage 11, I've been sitting back and chilling a little bit and I feel like asking the worn out cliche question "Who's on first?" Something about an Argentine policeman routing several riders the wrong direction, winners going to bed only to wake up and find out they're not winners because time credits were issued in their sleep and Mark Macguire finally admitted ....

Lopez Contardo finished the stage in first place today which moved him up to second place overall. Fretigne finished second and Ullevalseter third. Jonah Street was 10th in the stage.

Coma won the stage today with Fretigne and Verhoeven close behind. Jonah Street finished fourth just 5:40 behind. Ullevalseter was seventh eight minutes behind Coma. The official Dakar website shows Despres still in first by a margin of an hour and twenty four minutes and a tie for the second overall between Ullevalseter and Contardo.
Luca Manca reportedly woke up from his coma in the hospital today - Good News.

A short special test today with some new names showing up at the top. Coma wins with Fretigne, Rodrigues, Faria, and Contardo all coming in within five minutes of his finish. Despres finished sixth with Ullevalseter in eighth.
Overall standings did not change much with Despres holding first with a 1:22 lead on Ullevalseter, and Contardo in third at 1:24 minutes back from Despres.

Confusion on the Dakar site after today's stage. It shows both Despres and Coma with times of 2:12:30 but calls Coma the winner of the stage. Pal Anders Ullevalseter finished 1:14 behind which moves him into second overall. Contardo is in third with Rodriguez in fourth and only seven minutes difference between the times of Pal Anders and Rodriguez.

I've been trying to keep my mouth shut and let Ben report the Dakar for you, but this stage was so exciting, I have to put in my two cents. And now? Now I'm most determined to get over there next year and cover the event in person.

Francisco Lopez Contardo "Chaleco" chalked up his third stage win today on the Aprilia just 42 seconds ahead of Marc Coma. Despres finished fifth, but easily maintained his lead in the overall standings despite destroying both wheels early in the stage. Ruben Faria was his savior, trading wheels with him at the 245 Km point in the stage. Pal Anders Ullevalseter finished third and moved up in the overall to second place, one hour and 20 seconds behind Despres. Todays stage is the longest of the rally at 600KM. Despres and Coma have finished the stage with Coma just 29 seconds behind. Fretigne (Yamaha) has finished third at 5:00 back with Pal Anders Ullevalseter in fourth 11:10 behind. Ullevalseter, a veteran of many Dakars has put in a good performance this year so far and has a goal of winning at least one stage and being on the podium overall at the completion of the rally. He stands in fourth overall after this stage. Rest Day tomorrow.
